Zimmer Holdings Inc., is a is a medical devices manufacturing and marketing corporation that provides reconstructive knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, and spinal, and dental replacement implants, as well as orthopedic injury treatment products and surgical instruments. Justin Zimmer started the Zimmer Manufacturing Company in Warsaw, Indiana (USA) in 1927. In August 2001, Zimmer became a publicly-traded company. Zimmer currently operates manufacturing facilities in the US, Puerto Rico, Ireland, France, and Switzerland. Zimmer also maintains various office and warehousing facilities in 13 countries worldwide in addition to a central distribution center in Eschbach, Germany. Zimmer employs more than 8200 employees worldwide including 800 full-time R&D personnel. About 3300 of its employees are based outside the US. In 2009, Zimmer reported a total worldwide net sales value of more than $4 billion. According to the company’s 2009 annual report, its dental business has acquired 6 per cent of the global market sales in oral rehabilitation products. The same report also states that its dental products division manufactures and markets three major types of products; namely, reconstructive dental implants, restorative prosthetic devices, and regenerative oral surgical products.
The reconstructive dental implants include the Tapered Screw-Vent® Implant System, the AdVent® Implant System, and the Tapered Swiss Plus® Implant System. The restorative prosthetic devices include the Zimmer Hex-Lock®Contour Abutment and Restorative Products, the Hex-Lock® Short Abutment and Restorative System, and the Contour Angled Zirconia Abutment. Lastly, the dental regenerative surgical products include the Puros® Allograft Products, the CopiOs® Pericardium Membrane, the HemCon® Dental Dressing, and the Zimmer Sinus Lift Balloon.
