Retained milk tooth clinical case

Retained milk tooth

retained milk tooth

Here is an example of a milk tooth (deciduous tooth) which has never been replaced with an adult tooth. Over time the tooth has become loose and damaged. As can be seen from this photo the tooth is much smaller than the natural adult teeth. The patient decided that an implant was the best solution to replace the space once the milk tooth was removed.

the tooth is removed

The milk tooth was removed painlessly using just local anaesthetic. The extraction was done very carefully in order to preserve the supporting bone. The bone area was then prepared for an implant to be placed. The patient opted to have an implant placed on the same day of the extraction and a provisional crown made immediately after surgery.

The implant was placed and a screw retained provisional crown was made directly afterwards. The patient was very happy with the interim results far. We recommend that the patient brush more and see a hygienist in order to reduce the plaque which was forming around the adjacent teeth. The patient saw the hygienist and the plaque was removed

The new implant crown is received from the laboratory and it is checked for accuracy of fit, shade and shape. The type of crown was cement retained. The type of crown was a porcelain bonded crown

The crown in this case was a cement retained crown as position of the implant did not allow for a screw retained crown. In this case the customized abutment is positioned on the implant and the final crown is cemented with a specific implant crown cement.
