The Alternatives for Replacing Teeth

REMOVABLE DENTURE
Removable dentures, often called 'false teeth' or 'plates,' are cost-effective and made of acrylic to fit snugly in the mouth. They are aesthetically pleasing and can be produced within 8 hours without the need for surgery, making the process simpler and non-invasive. However, they are not a permanent fix and may cause difficulties with speech and eating due to movement. They can also irritate gums and, while they slow bone loss caused by missing teeth, they do not prevent it. Additionally, they need replacement every 3 to 6 years.

FIXED DENTAL BRIDGE ON NATURAL TEETH
This is also known as a ‘bridge’ and is different from a removable denture in that it is Fixed on the natural teeth. A Fixed Dental Bridge is not removable as it is cemented onto the adjacent natural teeth with dental cement. The Fixed Dental Bridge is made of metal and porcelain.

DENTAL IMPLANTS
A dental implant acts like a fixed tooth in your mouth. It is the closest alternative to a natural tooth which is available today. A dental implant is the most conservative option of all three alternatives. Implants are made of titanium and act like artificial roots which support a crown.

For back teeth, a healing period of 8 weeks is needed for integration with the jawbone. Front teeth replacements can often include a temporary tooth fitted on the same day. After healing, a second visit involves taking impressions for a custom-made, natural-looking tooth, typically made from durable, stain-resistant zirconia. Post-treatment care includes regular oral hygiene and annual check-ups to maintain the implant.
